Here are some cool links.  They are in no particular order, and the only virtue they all have in common is that Chef Kurt likes them.

  • Slow Food is an international, grassroots, eco-gastronomic educational organization dedicated to stewardship of the land and ecologically sound food production; to the revival of the kitchen and table as centers of pleasure, culture and community; to the invigoration and proliferation of regional, seasonal culinary traditions; and to living a slower and more harmonious rhythm of life.  Locally, Slow Food Iowa organizes educational tastings, holds dinners and potlucks, hosts the Bijou Theatre’s “Dinner and a Movie” series, organizes the annual “From Field to Family” Celebration and supports gardens in schools through our “From the Ground, UP!” initiative.  We are proud to count many local farmers as members.  There are over 1000 chapters in 85 countries around the world, including 156 in the US and 4 right here in Iowa (the belly of the Agribusiness beast).

Chefs Collaborative
  • The Chef's Collaborative mission is to advance and promote among chefs and the general public concepts and benefits of good, safe and wholesome foods, including sustainable food choices, responsible agricultural growing techniques, the impact of food choices on the environment and the advantages of locally grown and seasonally fresh foods, and to provide educational and other programs fostering such concepts and benefits.

  • This site has a very handy downloadable card to help you choose fish that's raised sustainably, thereby supporting fisherman who are not raping the oceans for profit.

  • Niman Ranch is committed to sustainable cuisine.  This is the site where you can get the same fabulous pork, beef and lamb we serve at Devotay.

 

 



Fabian Seafood:

  • Steve Fabian has been selling very fresh (never frozen) shrimp and other seafood from a truck at Kim's brother's Dairy Queen for over 25 years. There's even a picture of Kim. Get on their list so you'll know when they're coming!
